Shanica Knowles is an African American actress and singer best known for playing Amber Addison on the Disney TV series "Hannah Montana". She was born November 17, 1990 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She began singing at age four and playing guitar at age seven. By the time she was twelve years old she was writing her own music. She came to California in 2005 to begin a music career, but her agency instead placed her in roles for television and movies. She first played Vanessa in the children's television series on Nickelodeon in TEENick called "Unfabulous". Her character appeared in three episodes. In 2006, she began her biggest role as "mean girl" Amber Addison on Disney's hit TV series "Hannah Montana".
Shanica Knowles' character is the popular rival to the show's star, Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana, played by Miley Cyrus. Knowles' role began in the first season of the show and she was featured in almost every episode. Despite being rivals on the television series, in real life, Knowles and Cyrus are best friends. Knowles said of Cyrus, "She's doing an amazing job and I'm not really surprised by her success because she definitely deserves it". Knowles is back for season three of "Hannah Montana" which was delayed by the Hollywood writers strike. Knowles has also played Shauna Keaton in the 2007 television movie "Jump In!". She had a small part as "Sierra" in the beginning of 2007's "Super Sweet 16: The Movie".
